Krajicek: 'Djokovic will still be in top 5 in 2024.While Federer, Nadal...'
In a conference call at the Rotterdam Open, the 1996 Wimbledon winner Richard Krajicek was asked who will be in the top five rankings in a five-year time. Besides the young Sascha Zverev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Karen Katsjanov and Denis Shapovalov, Krajicek also sees Novak Djokovic being in the top 5. The Roger Federer-Rafael Nadal era will be ended, confessed Krajicek.
Krajicek also said Djokovic might be the best player of this generation, because in terms of the level he has gone over Nadal and Federer, in their best years. Krajicek expects that Djokovic can still dominate in the coming years.
On Djokovic, Robin Haase added: "He is just better on almost all fronts at the moment. No one can hurt him. He is everywhere and can put continuous pressure."
Meanwhile in an interview to ESPN the former Federer's coach Paul Annacone commented on the Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray's dominance: "One of the ingredients in the success of the Big Four, other than their being incredibly gifted, is that they don't have to adjust as much to different styles or surfaces. Back in the day, the discrepancy between surfaces opened opportunities and presented challenges. Now the only thing different is the movement, but even that's changing. It used to be you'd slide on clay; now guys are also sliding on hard, so how different can the movement really be."
Speaking to RTS, Federer recalled when at 17 years of age he put a banner on the opening of his room at home: "Here the world No. 1 junior lives."
