Packed crowds for my matches are not granted, says Roger Federer

Roger Federer loves to compete in front of many people. On Tuesday, at the Hopman Cup in Perth, the night session set the highest event's attendance ever featuring over 14,000 people in the stands. That was a special occasion as Federer and Serena Williams faced each other in a mixed-doubles match.

Federer said: 'That's great, I love seeing tennis on the upswing, it's really gotten bigger and better over the years thanks to the great people that have played this sport for many, many years and have sacrificied also numerous hours, events and promotional events and spoken to sponsors. So now we see great venues around the world, we have more and more media because of that. It's just a snowball effect, it's a popular sport, one of the few global sports like travels, we go on world tour every year like musicians basically, we do it every year. So we come to you, they, the fans, don't have to come to us necessarily, so to see so many people here in Perth is definitely a thrill. I love playing in front of full crowds, I have also seen different at the beginning of my career so you never take it for granted even thought you may, I think. I don't.'

Switzerland lost to Greece in Thursday's match 2-1 but thanks to Federer's win over Stefanos Tsitsipas in the men's singles, reached the Hopman Cup final.
