Kevin Anderson: I heard Federer was upset about playing on No. 1 Court
In an interview to the Times of India, the world No. 6 Kevin Anderson revealed Roger Federer was reportedly upset for playing on the No. 1 Court at Wimbledon in their quarter-final match in 2018. Anderson prevailed 13-11 in the fifth set and, then, went on to reach his second Grand Slam final ever – losing to Novak Djokovic – after the 2017 US Open. "There is a lot of silly politics involved … who is going to be playing where? I heard Federer was upset (for playing on court No. 1). It was kind of interesting", Anderson admitted. "Those guys are more often than not playing on the same court match after match. I had played on Court 1 against Monfils, so I was a little used to that. I didn't feel too bad for Federer that he had to adapt because I have to do that pretty much every single tournament."
Anderson thinks that Federer has heavy importance for tournaments and tennis in general, but the South African does not feel Roger gets unfair privileges by often playing at night, which was claimed by Julien Benneteau, during the 2018 ATP Finals in London. 'I just feel that the champion he (Federer) is, even if he had to play day matches, he would have adjusted and found a way,' Anderson added. 'Every player has the right to make scheduling request. Obviously, if Roger asks the tournament is going to take it seriously. He is so popular and every tournament wants him in the final. It's not his fault.'
