Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal want to reach Roger Federer's Majors - Ruzici
The 1978 French Open winner Virginia Ruzici believes that equalling Roger Federer's 20 Grand Slam titles is a goal both for Rafael Nadal, who holds 17 crowns, and Novak Djokovic who holds 14. In an interview to Gazeta Sporturilor, Ruzici said: 'Rafael's uncle, Toni, says Nadal wants to play two or three more years, which we want to see as well as Djokovic especially considering his last two Grand Slam titles. He and Nadal want to reach Federer's 20 Grand Slam titles. We have an amazing generation with ambitious players. It would have been better if Murray didn't get hurt and it did not work, but he was able to win Wimbledon and US Open and he also improved on clay.'
On the youngest players, Ruzici added: 'Zverev has a big potential and everyone says he is a future world leader and a Grand Slam leader. He has not done a lot in the Grand Slam tournaments, but ending the year winning and hiring Lendl says a lot. Thiem is set to win the French Open one day because he slides better. He can win the French Open after that Nadal era ends. But it has not ended yet, I think.'
Ruzici also revealed who for her is the brightest young star: 'For me, Amanda Anisimova has brilliant potential, but she already underwent surgery on her knee after the Miami Open. For me, she has an impressive tennis future. Then everyone has your own destiny, you can have enormous potential but then you have to achieve it. Sometimes outside factors can influence you, but I want to see her making it because seeing her game is a pleasure.'
