Roger Federer reveals 2019 wishes: 'Fair play, no scandals'
In an interview to the Swiss channel SRF, Roger Federer was asked about what he wishes for the 2019 season in tennis. As always, the Swiss player gave an interesting answer. Federer hopes to see fairness and equality on the Tour. 'Fair play, no scandals, that all sportsperson treat themselves with respect and a lot of beautiful moments, which should come along of course,' said the 37-year-old.
Federer believes in tennis there is more pressure than in other sports. The Swiss player knows how to handle expectations as he has been successful on the Tour over the last 20 years but he admitted that it does not come as easy as one would want to think. 'I’ve had the feeling tennis journalism is on the negative side. In golf, it’s very positive with 'what a great shot, what a great birdie'. With tennis, it’s 'hmm, you’ve already made 25 mistakes.' There’s more pressure,' Federer confessed.
The 37-year-old also commented on what makes the Hopman Cup a unique competition: 'It's nice to be playing on team for a change, it's the third year now. It has been a lot of fun, I always enjoy coming back to Perth and playing the Hopman Cup. I used to come here as a hitting partner also. Cheering on somebody to win, playing doubles, it's a lot of fun and intense,' concluded the world no. 3, who briefly returned as the world no. 1 in 2018, after the ABN Amro Open in Rotterdam, in February.
