Roger Federer's ability to improve shouldn't surprise us, says Pat Cash

In an interview to Khaleej Times, the 1987 Wimbledon champion and Davis Cup winner Pat Cash commented on Roger Federer being able to get wins after turning 37 August last year. Cash said: 'I personally have never thought that the longevity is something to be marvelled at. His ability to continue to improve in reality shouldn't surprise us. He has accomplished everything anyone could dream of doing. Nadal and Djokovic are exceptional athletes and really are freaks of nature. It's hard to compete year in, year out, yet Federer remains the player with the least injuries. He has been blessed with the ability to move so well.'

On the Next Generation players finally stepping up, Cash said, 'They are all very talented and can win slams, they just need to build mental and physical endurance to last two hard weeks. Surely (Rafa) Nadal, Federer and (Novak) Djokovic will have to slow down eventually and that will leave a gap as it does after a great era.'

On Djokovic's comeback at the highest level, Cash admitted it was something unexpected: 'Yes, it has surprised me as well. Not so much that he came back to top form but how quickly he did it from nowhere. He had an average French Open in late May, then all of a sudden dominated the tour for the next four months! That's something I didn't expect at all.'
