Sometimes I get crazy on court, says Dominic Thiem

Dominic Thiem has been handling the pressure and tense moments pretty well since a young age. In 2018 the Austrian upset Rafael Nadal in the Madrid Masters and lost to Alexander Zverev in the final. In Doha, the world No. 8 was asked how he deals with tense moments. 'I sometimes cannot handle it. That's when I have a little, when I get crazy on the court, but most of the time I think of myself that it's actually great fun to play on all the centre courts on the ATP Tour against the best players in the world and then I see myself what a nice job I have then it's easier to take the pressure and the stress', said Thiem.

On how often he trains, Thiem added: 'I practice every day and sometimes twice a day and, like today, when I have a match in the next day, then only once and for two hours or four hours if I don't play the next day, so I will also choose how I feel and then I decide. But almost every day.'

Thiem held a conference call along with Tomas Berdych, as they got asked questions exclusively by children. On his comeback from a back injury, Berdych said: 'My recovering time, there was a very new situation for me. In my the whole career, I've never been out more than a couple of weeks in the season, so this has been the first time and for long, for six months. So at the beginning there was a lot of doctors, a lot of recoveries and also every time and it learns me and gives me a new perspective for the tennis as well because I also had a chance to experience the life a little bit from the other side, not only being on the tennis court, and I really enjoy it, I cannot say I was bored or anything. I mean, I tried to use the time as much as I could and it was great and even better was that, at the end of this process, I was able to start to train, start to practice. Right now I can be sitting here with you answering the questions after winning my match yesterday, so really the things were going pretty well at the end of my recovery.'
