David Ferrer: 'I will miss Roger Federer, Nadal, Djokovic when they retire'
David Ferrer felt honoured to play the Argentina Open in Buenos Aires. The 36-year-old faced Malek Jaziri on Tuesday, winning in straight sets 7-6 6-3. In a press conference speaking to reporters, he said: "I thank the organizers for playing the Argentina Open, which has always been a priority for me. I had the opportunity to choose the final I want and last year I decided that 2019 would be my last year as a tennis player. I am proud of being able to say that in my last year I played the Argentina Open. This is goodbye because I will definitely comeback: as a fan, coach or personality", said the former world No. 3.
He also spoke about the generational change in tennis: "Everything evolved and especially tennis, like any sport. You play with more strength but the best guys keep being there and it's the case of Novak Djokovic, Rafa Nadal or Roger Federer. Three players who dominated the Tour got together and as a fan, I will miss when they will not be there anymore. It will happen. You have players who will replace them like Zverev, Tsitispas, Thiem or several guys who are there. It's good that we still enjoy Novak, Rafa and Roger. My goal is to win as many matches as possible before retiring. I want to keep being competitive and fight until the last point of my career.'
