Ernests Gulbis explains what makes him a funny player

Ernests Gulbis was pleased with his win over Marius Copil at the Rotterdam Open. The Latvian player, speaking to the tournament's social media accounts, said: "It was a completely different match than my last qualies round. There was no long rallies at all. It was really tense in the end of the second set. I had a break point almost every game. I had to move well, I had to return well. I was serving well. Yeah, it paid off."
When asked what made him tick, he joked, "Same as always, blood and heart. Sometimes brain... Blood, I am not a biochemist."
His next opponent will be the top-seed Kei Nishikori. After his three-set win over Pierre-Hugues Herbert Nishikori said: “It wasn’t easy, as he was playing good tennis and serving well. I had a little bit of trouble with my return game and couldn’t convert the important points. I just tried to play steady, as I wasn’t playing bad, and I tried to stay aggressive.”
About facing Gulbis, Nishikori added: “[Gulbis] is not easy, especially indoors where he uses his great serve and aggressive play really well. I just need to stay focused and get used to the conditions a little bit more.”
Nishikori also sent a message to the swimmer Rikako Ikee who revealed she is dealing with leukemia: "We cannot feel what you are feeling now, but please allow us to support you at heart. Because the way is long, slow. I suffered many times due to my injury, but I was able to get back from that. I think that if we see things from a different perspective, we will be able to comeback quicker. Everyone in Japan is cheering for you."
