Backhand Practice. Use a ball machine as a teaching tool
Ball machines, when used the right way, can do wonders for your fitness, technique and tactical knowledge.
This backhand drill will improve your concentration while returning serve, as well as your placement, decision-making and court sense. Set up the machine to serve to you in the deuce court.
The goal is to hit four consecutive backhand returns—of varying styles—to four different spots on the court. Master this drill and your return will quickly become one of your strongest weapons.
1. Slice a lob return down the line to your opponent’s backhand corner. This is especially effective in doubles because of how it can cause confusion among your opponents. 2. Hit an inside-in drive down the line, to your opponent’s backhand side (if the opponent is right-handed). This is an aggressive return that’s ideal for attacking second serves. 3. Hit a looping return down the middle. This neutral return is an excellent way to start off a point after a solid serve, or if your return rhythm isn’t there yet. 4. Now for the toughest one: a drop shot return to the opposite service box. You won’t hit this return much in a match, but it can come in handy against a slow mover, or as a way to keep your opponent guessing.
If you make this exercize you will see your backhand grew very quick. If you don't have a ball machine you can ask your friend or partner to help! Remember: this drill must be done by ball machine or by bucket
