I always thought Novak Djokovic would be back, says Roger Federer
In an interview to Tennis net, Roger Federer commented on Novak Djokovic's stunning return to the high-level competition. The Swiss player was amazed by seeing the Serb winning three Grand Slam titles in a row since 2018 Wimbledon: "I was always convinced that he would be back. And then you ask yourself if his best tennis is enough to still win the best tournaments. The way he played the last Grand Slams was more than impressive."
Federer feels that winning consecutive Majors is easier now than the past: "In the past, every Grand Slam had a more specific character. The French Open was the classic clay-court tournament where you had to face a lower surface. Wimbledon was a tournament for fast servers, to hit serve and volleys. Now surfaces got equalled pretty quickly. You can win Wimbledon without even going to the net."
And what about Djokovic or Nadal possibly beating his 20 Major titles record? "This situation has been there for a long time. Are these records eternal? No, they aren't. In the past they wrote, Sampras's 14 Majors will never be broken. Then I broke that record maybe because you can have more success now in the several Majors. In the end, there could be someone who overtakes everyone anytime."
