Losing to Nick Kyrgios was a blessing for Rafael Nadal, says Rusedski

The former world No. 4 Greg Rusedski believes that there is something positive in Rafael Nadal's loss to Nick Kyrgios. The Spaniard was beaten in the third set tie-break and he did not look in a good mode after the match. Speaking on Amazon Prime in Indian Wells, Rusedski previewed Nadal's run at the BNP Paribas Open: “If you look at the draw for Rafa, the opening matches have been pretty kind. If you look at Federer and Djokovic, there draws are a lot more difficult so he can work his way into the tournament. And he likes to get his rhythm. Once he gets his rhythm, he usually goes deep in tournaments. Losing to Kyrgios in Acapulco is a blessing because he doesn’t have bad back-to-back weeks."

Fellow pundit Daniela Hantuchova commented on Indian Wells conditions being cooler than the past, which will not make Nadal happy as he prefers the sun: “No, he won’t be. And it is a tournament where the conditions matter the most. It is such a difference playing a day match and a night match. And I’m sure Rafa will be hoping to be playing in the middle of the day when he can get the kick off the court and work the spin around the court. If it gets cooler, especially in the night, he might be in trouble because you really have to be confident to hit the ball here otherwise you are doing all the running."

Rusedski also praised Federer's list of achievements in a very competitive era for tennis: “It is unbelievable because we are talking about this generation being the best ever. You got Murray, Djokovic, Nadal and to have 100 titles is unbelievable. We might not see this in our lifetime again. That’s how good it is what Federer accomplished. But to catch that man at the top, Jimmy Connors, it is going to be difficult but it is something he can possibly do."
