Nick Kyrgios should play fewer events as Roger Federer: Analyst
The former world no. 4 Greg Rusedski believes that Nick Kyrgios should play fewer events, taking a page from Roger Federer's book, in order to enjoy the game more. May and June will be busy months for the 24-year-old who plays Madrid, Rome, French Open, Stuttgart, Queen's and Wimbledon. Speaking on Amazon Prime, the British pundit said: "Here is the thing. [Kyrgios] doesn’t have a good team of people around him and he doesn’t want that. He says ‘I am uncoachable and I don’t want to be on tour’. Why not just play as Federer does, 10 to 12 events. Forget about the rules that he is forced to play 18 events. Over time you come to an event you commit to playing it. Play one week a month, that’s all. He is so talented. When he went to Acapulco he stayed up every single night, he partied till 4 am and he won the tournament.”
Rusedski added: “He is never going to be Rafa [Nadal], Roger, [Andy] Murray, [Novak] Djokovic. He has got no chance of that but he has got to find a programme that works for him. When he shows up to work he must try his best. He needs to get a psychologist or somebody who travels with him. If he can get his mental health up that would be grey."
Federer and Kyrgios are set to compete in the French Open next.
