Rafael Nadal could have been a great footballer, says Uncle Toni

In an interview, Rafael Nadal's uncle Toni commented on his work ethic. The 58-year-old said: "The win never motivated me more than the improvement. All the triumph moments were not better than seeing his improvement in Manacor. His desire to improve motivated me more than any win. I think you can learn from wins and losses. I always thought Rafa would be a great player. But he could have been a great footballer too. I also prepared him to lose otherwise he'd better not compete. In order to coach him, I picked the easiest way: working."

On how he split with his nephew Rafael on a professional way, Toni added: "In a given moment we told Carlos if he wanted to get involved and I saw that what I was doing was not necessary. From that moment, I understood that it was the right moment to leave my charge and go working in the Academy."

In an interview to L Gazzetta Dello Sport, actress Valeria Solarino commented on her admiration for Nadal. The Italian said: "I think he may be the strongest player ever, not just on clay but on clay he is someone amazing, he also won the other Grand Slams multiple times and he is a superhero." On Italy's biggest players, Solarino added: "There are many. Sinner, who made people fall in love with him. He is going through a great journey. Matteo Berrettini, Fabio Fognini, Marco Cecchinato. Fabio just showed his talent. The Italian group is a strong one."

Solarino loves the Rome Open: "It's one of the best times during the year, I wait for it like Christmas, it's so nice, I am a tennis fan, I also like to play and here it's an amazing place. This has something special as well as this city. There many strong young players but they are not consistent and solid enough yet. They will become world No. 1 and 2 but as long as the Big Three are there, I do not see hopes."
