Roger Federer's French Open depends on how his body feels - Ferrero
In an interview to Omnisport, the former world No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero commented on Roger Federer's chances at the French Open. The Spaniard said: "I think everything depends on how he feels physically. I think he is fresh. He has played four tournaments so far this year. He will play up to nine or eight tournaments the whole year. He feels fresh and he selects the tournaments where he is comfortable. Madrid suits him because the ball goes very quickly, like in Rome. Even if it does not feel like this, he feels comfortable. And Roland Garros is compulsory if you decide to play on clay. I think it's a wise decision if he feels fresh and therefore we will also enjoy his tennis."
On the 11-time tournament winner Rafael Nadal, Ferrero added: "I think when Rafa is at 100 per cent, he is the main candidate when matches are at five sets. You need to constantly be at your highest level ever for a long time in order to beat Rafa on clay over two, two hours and a half. And Rafa is aware of that and he is able to take advantage of it. There are a few players who can do it but there are some who need to have more confidence. Many players, when they face Rafa Nadal at the Roland Garros, head into the court not being motivated. And when they know things go bad, they know that they are not above him. But I think Thiem has more experience this year after playing the final last year and winning the Barcelona Open this year. You also have to put Djokovic on that list, and of course the magician and definitely the biggest talent Roger Federer. If he reaches full fitness, I am sure he will have a chance."
