Andrey Rublev: 'I was shocked by how legendary Roger Federer is'

In an interview to Eurosport Andrey Rublev was asked if his Cincinnati third round win over Roger Federer was the best one of the year. The Russian player said: "It's difficult to say. If we consider the status and stage, it is definitely like this. But emotionally, I was more shocked by Federer himself, how legendary he is. When the match ended, I started admiring Roger more than my win. For how unbelievable and legendary he is."

Asked if he spent some time with Daniil Medvedev during the US Open, Rublev replied: "That's an important tournament. He has his team, plays matches, needs to think about himself, recover and prepare for the next match. Me, same thing. When I rest, he plays, when he rests, I play. So hanging out is not that easy. It's a single sport where everyone thinks about themselves."

On what his thoughts were when he checked the US Open draw and he would meet Stefanos Tsitsipas in the first round, Rublev concluded: "I have been knowing Tsitsipas for a long time, we face each other since we were kids. I knew I had a chance against him, I understood that if I beat him, I would have definitely beat the following opponent. But the draw could have been better as he is a top ten player, he won a lot of titles and played many good matches. I accept it the way it happened."
