Medvedev: 'Cincinnati win over Novak Djokovic was the best one this year'
Daniil Medvedev was asked what his best match of the year was. The Russian said: "Probably the win over Novak Djokovic in Cincinnati. The first set was so tough, I was very tired. I did not see solutions, I thought I would have lost, he was playing well and he was fit. But the crowd was on my side, which is probably surprising. I played like crazy in the second and third set. So it probably stands out."
On his opening round win over Evgeny Donskoy, Medvedev added: "Before a match with every opponent, I try to think about what are his weaknesses and what his strengths. I knew my opponent would be worse on the backhand side. So the goal was to push him on the backhand and then see how it goes. The first match is always the toughest one. You cannot practice on the central court because there are matches on the Central court all the time and if you want to practice there, you have to go there at 9:00 and I would like to sleep at that time. So you go on court to compete, getting used to the atmosphere, how the ball runs. It was important for me to win. I got used to the court, I did not spend too much time out there and that's the most important thing. I hope I will play even better."
On his next match against Andrey Rublev, Medvedev said: "It's very interesting for the crowd when two Russian guys play in Russia. It's always difficult to face him. I will prepare to deliver a good tennis."
