Medvedev doesn't regret not playing Laver Cup with Federer and Nadal
Daniil Medvedev was asked if he had considered playing the Laver Cup this year in Geneva. The Russian player made his real breakthrough at the top position in the American summer winning in Cincinnati and reaching Washington, Montreal and US Open finals, so he may not have been contacted by the Laver Cup co-founders Tony Godsick and Roger Federer. Medvedev may get an offer in 2020 when the Laver Cup will take place in the United States, which would not definitely be good news for the St. Petersburg Open where this year the Moscow native features as a top seed. "My agent is more interested in those problems, so I am not sure if it happened or not. Anyway, I always said St. Petersburg is one of my favorite tournaments of the year, this is a home tournament, I am happy to come here. I do not have regrets," said Medvedev.
Andrey Rublev, speaking of his loss to Medvedev, said: "I could have served better and been more focused. There were a lot of bad first serves. There is no consistency yet. It happens that I may serve well for three matches, then I serve worse and then amazing again. I hope to be consistent. I was not so far." Taking the positives out of the match, he said: "Playing quarter-finals at home after seven years of failed attempts is already good for me. Also winning two matches against good friends was good."
Medvedev will play the Asian swing in Beijing and Shanghai before switching to Europe again for four indoor hard-court tournaments in a row.
