Not everybody can take six months off and win a Major like Federer -McEnroe
John McEnroe commented on Andy Murray's decision to play singles again. Next week the Brit will compete in the Mallorca Challenger during the US Open first week. McEnroe said: "If he thought he was ready to play and compete and challenge, he would have played. He doesn’t, so… I only saw him play the one match, singles match, against Gasquet. I mean, not surprisingly he looked tentative, not sure of his movement, play, et cetera. It’s getting sort of the cobwebs out. Not everyone can take six months off, have a surgery like Roger Federer did, go win a major.
That was sort of superhuman. Andy’s injury is more serious I think. I’m not exactly sure. He talked about being in pain all the time. I mean, listen, if the guy’s healthy, he’ll be back in the top 10. If he’s not able to move, a lot of his game relied on movement. If he’s not going to be able to move very close to what he was, I don’t think he’s going to be able to keep playing. That’s my personal opinion. I don’t think he’d want to keep playing if he was 50 in the world, whatever. If he did feel like he could move and he wasn’t in pain, whether he could win majors, that’s a different thing. He definitely could get back to the top 10. The guy knows how to win."
