The three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray has been handed a wild card for the Western & Southern Open in New York which is taking place as a warm-up for the US Open Grand Slam event. Murray has won the Western & Southern Open in 2008 and 2011. The hard-court event is usually held in Cincinnati but has been moved to New York so that players can be in one location for two tournaments and can be in a bubble as they compete in the tournaments. Murray has said he also plans to play the US Open since he does not have too many chances to play the Grand Slams but also said that it was important to ensure that players coming back to Europe do not have to be in quarantine and that insurance is put in place for the players and their support staff while they are in New York. The 33-year-old Murray has had two hip operations and hasn’t played an official tour match since the end of the last season.
