Doubles player Wesley Koolhof shares USTA waiver players need to sign to play US Open

Tennis - Dutch doubles tennis player Wesley Koolhof has shared the waiver that players will need to sign when they compete at the US Open in New York later this month on his social media account.

The 31 year old Koolhof is currently ranked No. 17 in the world in doubles and shared the waiver that players need to sign when they enter the US Open Grand Slam event in New York.

Some of the excerpts of the waiver mentioned below are - 

"I am fully aware of the risks involved with entering USTA National Tennis Center Incorporated premises and facilities located at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Flushing, New York....

“I further understand that compliance with the COVID-19 Protocols will not eliminate these risks, even with social distancing and other safety measures in place at the Facilities. Notwithstanding the foregoing, I elect to voluntarily participate in entering the Facilities with full knowledge that doing so may be hazardous to my health and those with whom I may come into contact.”

“I voluntarily assume full responsibility for any risks of loss or personal injury, including serious illness, injury or death, that may be sustained by me or by others who come into contact with me, as a result of my presence in the Facilities, whether caused by the negligence of the NTC or otherwise.”

“This is a release of liability and agree that it is valid forever”

Not the point: point is they're having in their waiver a line about even if it's the tournament's negligence, players can't hold them responsible. If u don't find that shocking, Sandy, I can't nothing for you about that

As usual, the waiver set off many comments on social media with some criticising the waiver by the USTA saying it is a very strict and unfair waiver while others defending the USTA, saying that the USTA requires to do the same to ensure that they can hold the event without taking any possible liabilities from the players getting infected while they play the tournament.

The US Open is scheduled to begin in New York at the end of August. Several players have already withdrawn from the event, including World No. 2 Rafael Nadal, women's World No. 1 Ash Barty, three-time major winner Stan Wawrinka, Australia's Nick Kyrgios and Top 10 players Kiki Bertens and Elina Svitolina. More players are expected to make a final decision on travelling to the United States in the coming days.
