Former French Open junior champ Bjorn Fratangelo hoping to rebuild his ranking

Former French Open junior champion Bjorn Fratangelo, of the United States, says he is healthy once again and is looking forward to competing in some of the upcoming ATP Challenger events in the coming weeks.

The 27 year old Bjorn Fratangelo won the French Open boys singles title in 2011, beating current World No. 3 Dominic Thiem in the final, 3–6, 6–3, 8–6. On the pro tour, he peaked at No. 99 in the rankings in 2016. However, due to injures, his ranking has dropped to No. 262 in the world currently.

Former French Open junior champ Bjorn Fratangelo says he is healthy and practicing at 100 per cent once again

Speaking to the Triblive website, Fratangelo says he has been training at the USTA National Training Centre in Orlando in recent months and feels healthy once again. "Now, I am healthy and practicing at 100 percent. I’ve been practicing a lot over the past eight to 10 weeks, and I feel my game is solid. Now, it’s just a matter of having tournaments to play and being able to get back to competitive form. I am hoping to rebuild my ranking as it has fallen off a bit."

Fratangelo has also been dating WTA tennis star Madison Keys since the past few years and picked up photography as a hobby while he continues to work on his rehab.

After missing the Australian Open in January due to injury, the American played only one ATP Challenger event in the early part of the season and had planned to play in some ITF events but the tour shutdown due to the pandemic.

The ATP Tour is set to resume in New York with the Western & Southern Open and the US Open in New York followed by clay courts events in Europe, including the French Open in Paris in late September. With his current ranking not high enough to compete in those events, Fratangelo says he is looking to competing in some events on the ATP Challenger tour in the United States in September and if those get cancelled, then he would consider travelling to Europe to play some events there as he hopes to build his ranking up once again.

Bjorn Fratangelo's best performance at the Grand Slams has been a seconnd round appearance at the French Open in 2016 and at the US Open in 2017. He has won 3 titles on the ATP Challenger circuit and 8 titles on the ITF Pro circuit.
