Is Collin Morikawa the winner of the PGA Championship, 102nd edition of the historic American tournament, winning the first Major event of his very young career, thanks to a score of -13. And that was only his second participation in a Major. Very bad Tiger Woods, the most anticipated golfer at this event, after the proclamations of the last few weeks. Behind Morikawa there was the Briton Paul Casey and the American Dustin Johnson, while the favorite of the day before, Brooks Koepka, king of the Majors in recent years, collapsed in the standings.
From the University of California, the young golfer turned up on the tee of 16, aware that, with the advancement of the starting tee, the par 4 had become drivable. He had been told that this would not ruin his strategy and that he would not be enticed but when you are three holes from the deadline for a major tournament, and moreover you come from an encouraging chip-in to the previous hole, things can change .
This is the third overall success, the second of this exceptional season on the PGA Tour which saw him climb, with this triumph, to the 12th position in the world order of merit. Casey, -4 in the day, has most likely played the best Major of his career, renowned for having been as good overall as it is complicated in the most important tournaments, given that this second place is not only the best result ever for him , but also the placements in the top areas were quite rare.
If we would like to see the other positions we find Matthew Wolff (-5), Scottie Scheffler (-2), Jason Day, Tony Finau and Bryson Dechambeau. As for the other stars, thirteenth position at -7 for the Spaniard Jon Rahm, twenty-ninth Brooks Koepka (-3) while Rory McIlroy finished 33rd at -2, a shot ahead of world number 1 Justin Thomas and Tiger Woods.
