DiNubile: "Maybe Roger Federer wants to undergo regenerative surgery"

Roger Federer will have his third surgery on his right knee in the past year and a half. A terrible news that has discouraged his followers and all tennis fans. The forfeits at the Tokyo Olympics 2021 and the American Masters 1000s did not bode well, so much so that his renunciation of the US Open was almost taken for granted, but no one could imagine such a scenario.

A few hours after Federer's Instagram communication, the New York Times contacted Nicholas DiNubile, a US orthopedic surgeon specializing in knee injuries. The latter has hinted that King Roger's injury is not a trivial matter.

Federer will try to return in 2022

DiNubile: "As a doctor who specializes in knee injuries, I have to admit that Roger Federer's is definitely a serious problem. Going under the knife several times in such a short time is certainly not a good sign. We can already rule out that it is a simple problem in the meniscus, as it had been hypothesized several times.

I believe that arthritis and serious damage to the cartilage are involved, problems that can occur after such a long career at a high level. If arthritis and wear are very advanced, the problem cannot be solved simply by resorting to arthroscopy.

Maybe Roger is planning to undergo regenerative surgery, but that's just a hypothesis. His knee might feel better thanks to it, but it doesn't mean he'll be able to get back to the level he wants. However, we must not forget that he is 40 years old and that the opponents are much younger than him."
