World number one Novak Djokovic is having a great season so far. He has already won three Grand Slam titles and will now be watching the Calendar Slam. However, apart from all this, there is another great news for him as his son is about to enter elementary school. Novak Djokovic's eldest son Stefan is about to enter primary school in September 2021. Interestingly, both Novak and Jelena have decided that the 6-year-old will study in his native Serbia. In a recent interview with Mondo, a close help from Djokovic revealed about Novak and Jelena's decision. He mentioned that they both want Stefan to enjoy his childhood as much as possible without the burden of traveling from place to place. “Novak and Jelena decided that their son would have a childhood, as much as possible, just like other kids and friends from school that he would hang out with and do homework the way they did... Jelena and Novak are committed to explaining to him what his responsibilities will be like,” said the close assistant. Stefan's upbringing in Serbia largely means that the Djokovic family, especially Jelena, will now have to spend most of their time in Serbia. “Of course, they will continue to be with Dad as long as they can. But the rules will dictate Stefan's obligations at Tarin's school and kindergarten... Jelena is the one who has already instructed her son about the responsibilities he will have and what his life will be like when he enters school on September 1”, added the source.

Djokovic's actions drew widespread criticism

Novak Djokovic returned empty-handed from this year's Olympic Games, thus ending his pursuit to win the Calendar Golden Slam. Djokovic led by a set and a break against Alexander Zverev in the semifinals but went on to lose in three sets, before losing the bronze-medal match against Pablo Carreno Busta too. "This is his personality, he's not Rafa, he's not Roger," Daniela Hantuchova said. "It shows how much he cares and how competitive he is. I think it's good that all three are so different in so many ways and it allows us to enjoy what they have done over the last 20 years for our game. I still feel like Novak is a level above them all in the best of five matches," Hantuchova said. "It will be interesting to see how sharp he can be without playing any warm-up events before the US Open, but he is generally in cruise control in the first week of a Major and I would expect him to try and use the first week in New York to get into top shape for the challenges in the second week."
