Nadal and Federer cannot go forever: tennis will have new era - Rusedski
Greg Rusedski feels confident about the future of tennis. In an interview to Tennis365, the former world No. 4 commented on the Big3s dominance and how tennis will be once they retire. 'We have been waiting a few years for one of these youngsters to make a breakthrough and now we are seeing some evidence that two guys are knocking hard on the door,' said Rusedski.
'The era of Djokovic, Nadal and Federer is not over year and we have see that in 2018 as those guys won all the majors again, but they cannot go on forever and I believe tennis will have a bright new era with the players coming through. One of these youngsters is going to come along and do something special and what we saw from Karen Khachanov winning the final Masters event of the season suggests he could be ready to take the next step. We are also waiting to see what happens with the Zverev and his decision to bring in Ivan Lendl as his new coach could be exciting in 2019. He played so well at the ATP finals in London and that may be something of a breakthrough for him as he looks forward to next year.'
Meanwhile speaking on Davis Cup new format, in an interview to Telegraph the ITF President David Haggerty said: 'The reason that we feel so passionate about the Davis Cup is, as the governing body, the federation for tennis on a worldwide basis, 200 nations develop tennis in their countries. And the benefits of Davis Cup by the players playing gives us resources to distribute funding to the nations that can run junior tournaments that they lose money on, and have pro circuit events that they’re investing into the future of players, so that we’re really developing the next generation of players. And that’s why it’s so important to us and why we believe having one competition, the Davis Cup, would be great for tennis.'
