Winning Grand Slams is every year tougher for Federer and Nadal, says Toni
In an interview to Diario Vasco, Toni Nadal is back to speak about his sayings indicating that Roger Federer is unlikely to win a Grand Slam in 2019. Toni explained: 'I was saying that, with all my respect, at 38 years of age it will be difficult to win a tournament at best of five sets matches. He will have some chances at Wimbledon, but every year it's tougher. The same happens with Rafael.'
Nadal and Federer played 48 matches each other but this year for the second time in 15 years they did not clash. Is their rivalry ending? 'Sooner or later they will stop facing each other. In the past Roger, Novak and Rafael always played the big finals but once you have more contenders it's easier than someone falls. It's the life rule, I suppose that you will have some more clash but it will be more difficult every year.'
Asked if this rivalry can be reproduced at the cinema like with John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg, Toni replied: 'Borg and McEnroe, they were two totally different styles, one about the fire and the other one more consistent, one was correct and the other wasn't; I believe that this isn't Nadal and Federer case. From one side the classic and elegant tennis and from the other one a game based more on passion. They are two different styles and I think that it could be interesting to see them on the big screen.'
Nadal will start the new season in Brisbane, Federer at the Hopman Cup.
