David Ferrer set to say goodbye to Acapulco in February 2019

The Mexican Open in Acapulco will not feature Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic neither, but it will still have an amazing field made up also of David Ferrer, who will play in Acapulco his last non-European tournament ever as a professional. Between April and May Ferrer will play in Barcelona and Madrid on clay. The 36-year-old, currently 126th ranked, won the title four times there. 'The fact that David chose Acapulco as his last tournament before saying goodbye at home is very meaningful for us', said the Tournament Director Raul Zurutuza. 'He is a player who we respect a lot and who the Mexican crowd loves. We will give him the goodbye the way it needs to be and we hope one day he will be back as a coach or just go to Acapulco to enjoy himself.'

85% of the tickets have already been sold. 'We are going well, we are 100% dedicated on the stadium working to make it the best possible', Zurutuza added. 'It will be difficult to keep surprising the fans, we have a great draw, happy for the players we announce. It will be a great week of tennis, we have been in the market for 26 years and that's why we brought such high-level competitors.'

Besides Ferrer, also Rafael Nadal, Alexander Zverev, Kevin Anderson, John Isner, Stan Wawrinka and Grigor Dimitrov have committed to play in 2019 Acapulco so far.

Nadal will start his season in Brisbane, Zverev in Perth.
