Dominic Thiem's goal for 2019 to win maiden Grand Slam title

Austrian tennis star Dominic Thiem hopes to fulfill his dream of winning a Grand Slam title in 2019.

The Austrian has been working extremely hard in Tenerife since the beginning of December as he is motivated to enter the new season exceptionally prepared.

Thiem has been training in Tenerife with his brother Moritz Thiem, fellow compatriots Dennis Novak and Sebastian Ofner, as well as with fellow tour colleagues David Goffin and Jan-Lennard Struff.

Thiem has had a couple of notable French Open campaigns so far in his career but he has yet to win it all at Roland Garros.

The Austrian made back-to-back French Open semi-finals in 2016 and 2017 before he made the final at Roland Garros this year.

Thiem, ranked at No. 8 in the world, couldn't pull off a major upset and beat Rafael Nadal in his maiden Grand Slam final as he suffered a straight-set defeat.

The Austrian has never reached a semi-final in any of the remaining three Grand Slam.

When asked in an exclusive interview with Krone about his goals for 2019, Thiem said: "(To win) my first Grand Slam title. I have been dreaming about that since my childhood."

The Austrian also added that is the reason why he is working so hard and pushing his limits.

Thiem, who achieved his career-high ranking of No. 4 in the world in 2017, hopes to return to the top-5 next year.

"At the end of 2019 I would like to be placed in the top-5," Thiem revealed.
