Revealed: the first clay-court tournament of Maria Sharapova in 2019

As always, the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart will feature almost all the best world class players of the WTA Tour. Simona Halep, Elina Svitolina and the local hero Angelique Kerber lead the field in the German tournament that takes place from 20 to 28 April 2019. Kerber will seek her third title having won back to back in 2015 and 2016, while Maria Sharapova will look to triumph for the fourth time after 2012, 2013 and 2014. The five-time Grand Slam winner always draws packed crowds in Stuttgart and 2019 will make no exceptions.

Karolina Pliskova will try to retain the crowd she conquered this year beating Coco Vandeweghe in a straight-set final. Also, Petra Kvitova, Julia Goerges and Daria Kasatkina confirmed their appearance. The Tournament Director Markus Günthardt feels satisfied: 'The fact that we can already present tennis fans with a main draw field containing six top ten players makes us very proud and shows just how much the top stars like to come to us in the Porsche Arena' said Günthardt. 'The world No. 1, the winner of the WTA Finals plus the winners of the Paris and Wimbledon Grand Slams – it can’t get much better. The positive response of the players shows that the overall package is spot on here. I’m so happy for our spectators.'

Sharapova and Halep will start the new season at the Shenzhen Open, Kerber at the Hopman Cup in Perth.
