Roger Federer's Dubai-based hitting partner finds new job, flies to Europe

Peter Wessels usually hit with Roger Federer in Dubai during this time of the year, the tennis off-season, but he now left the United Arab Emirates. Wessels, a former tennis player, will headline the "Five Steps to the Top" project launched by the Dutch Tennis Federation to help younger players.

Wessels made his debut on the ATP Tour at the Rosmalen Open and he competed in several Grand Slam tournaments. He achieved his career-high ranking at No. 72 in 2005. In 2006, with Michaella Krajicek, he reached the Hopman Cup final. In 2009 he ended his career as a tennis professional and worked in Abu Dhabi and Dubai since 2010, regularly training with the 20-time Grand Slam winner.

Wessels is looking forward to this challenge in the Netherlands: 'Tennis is my passion and my life, first as a professional player and now as a coach and hitting partner. It was obviously an honour to train with Roger Federer in Dubai when he prepares for the new season. I am looking forward to working with Dutch players and leading them to a future as a tennis player.'
