Younger players think they can beat Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal - Wilander
Seven-time Grand Slam winner Mats Wilander is confident that the younger players will soon breakthrough on the ATP Tour, also in Grand Slams. This year Alexander Zverev, Karen Khachanov and Stefanos Tsitsipas got some successes and 2019 may be the key year to triumph. '(Rafael) Nadal or (Roger) Federer are, obviously, so good to be able to win anyway, but the younger generation think they can win. Until the other guys believe in themselves and they think to have a chance, I think it's interesting', Wilander told Eurosport.
The Swede also commented on the WTA side: 'I think the women's tennis was blocked on Venus and Serena Williams's styles. Then Sharapova and Kvitova came, they hit strong and were dominating on all the surfaces with hard and flat surfaces. They may not be playing tactically correct, but with a bigger power. This tennis is funny to watch when they play well, it's not funny when they do not play well. So, it's important that they can take a page from the men's tennis to keep the ball in play, build points physically and defend themselves through the journey. Playing in defence but also being able to go forward.'
