Cash praises impressive Novak Djokovic for winning without playing at best

Pat Cash praised Novak Djokovic's four set win over Daniil Medvedev at the Australian Open on Monday. The 1987 Wimbledon winner wrote: "We've seen it many times before... Great players like somehow find a way to win despite not playing their best. So impressive."

Cash also praised the 22-year-old Russian: "Respect to Medvedev for competing hard and fighting until the end. Not easy to do when you're tired and playing one of the greats."

Cash also commented on the umpire's mistake during the match between Kei Nishikori and Pablo Carreno Busta: "This eloquently explains why the controversial Nishikori vs Carreno Busta point should have been replayed."

"Smart strategic tennis from #Djokovic to take the 3rd set. Novak wasn't playing his best so instead of getting upset he decided to weather the storm, simplify things, and just grind #Medvedev down. He's forced this match to be played on his terms again.'

'Djokovic looking tired at times but seems like he's happy to step back absorb the pressure and massage the ball around the court. Must have calculated that he's got more left in the tank than Medvedev.'

Pablo Andujar wrote on Twitter: 'Impressive, I hope they review the images and they realize about the mistake. Carreno gets fined for it after running over five hours and the umpire will soon serve in a Grand Slam final... And it would not be the first time it happens.'

Cash wrote: 'Wow what a dramatic and controversy finish. Nishikori d Carreno Busta should of been a replay when CB was up in 5th set breaker. Bad call from umpire though Nish deserved to win point. Watch replay.'
