Nick Kyrgios: 'My off-season in Canberra was unbelievable'
In a press conference at the Australian Open Nick Kyrgios spoke about how staying at home in Canberra during the pre-season was important to him after being on the road 'for nearly almost six months' in 2018 going from one tournament to another. Kyrgios will try spending as most time as possible in his country. 'That was tough for me', he said about the ton of travelling he did last year. 'The off-season, being in Canberra at home was unbelievable, to spend time with family. I hadn't seen my sister in a while, she was back home. Just spending time with family, friends, take time away from the sport I think mentally recharged me a lot. The off-season went really quickly. But the Aussie summer is the best time of the year I think for all Australians. It's the most exciting. They love playing in front of the home crowd. Being home was awesome.'
Kyrgios also spoke about the possibility of seeing Chris Kermode leaving his role as ATP President and Chief Executive: 'I personally like Chris. I think the changes that tennis is having with ATP Cup and stuff, I think it's going in the right direction. He's trying to do the right thing. I really like him, so...'
The world No. 51 started his season on a bad note losing to the Frenchman Jeremy Chardy in a three-set second round match.
