Novak Djokovic's comeback did not surprise me, says Nick Kyrgios
In an interview to Nine last week on the Rod Laver Arena at the Australian Open, alongside the former world No. 1 Jim Courier, Nick Kyrgios commented on Novak Djokovic's comeback to the top of tennis. In 2018 Djokovic won two Grand Slams, Wimbledon and US Open, and he earned 21 ranking positions going from 22nd in June to No. 1 in November after the Paris Masters. Asked if he was surprised, Kyrgios said: 'Not at all, he is a champion, arguably one of the greatest players of all time, so to see him back healthy and play at that level. He feels so comfortable here, he obviously won multiple times.'
The 23-year-old Canberra native also spoke about how it felt to commentate the third round match between Roger Federer and Taylor Fritz on Friday. 'It was unbelievable. Seeing the level of tennis Roger produced was pretty special.'
Meanwhile, speaking of Alex De Minaur the Australian legend Rod Laver said: “(He is) tenacious. He is there to really put his best effort forward. To me, he has had a great season this last year. Now, he has to continue. You can’t just rest on having some good events. I saw some tough matches that he pulled through on, so he is real.”
De Minaur will play the Davis Cup next, then the New York Open.
