Roger Federer is slight favorite over Nadal as GOAT, says John McEnroe

John McEnroe believes that at the moment, Roger Federer is the GOAT over Rafael Nadal. The Swiss holds three Grand Slam titles more than the Spaniard, 20 to 17, and in an interview to TennisTV, the former seven-time Grand Slam winner said: 'He continues to amaze a lot of people including myself. You look at him and Nadal and he seems to be the slight favourite as the greatest player that ever played the game.'

On Federer's attempt to win his 100th career-title, the former world no. 2 Tommy Haas said: 'Unbelievable, I think that it's just a matter of time. It's going to be very exciting for him and it's just around the corner for him to make it happen.'

The former world no. 4 Jonas Bjorkman concluded: 'He is on 99 wins. It's a lot of pressure and anticipation for everyone to see if and when he can get that 100th title. Beginning of the year with Federer winning in Australia, an amazing story his 20th Grand Slam. He is not getting any younger and it will be interesting to see if he can add to his tally in 2019.'

Federer is the defending champion at the Australian Open. The Swiss has been drawn in the second half of the men's singles draw along with Nadal. The Swiss is seeded third, while Nadal is the second seed. Federer will open against Denis Istomin on Monday, in the night session. Novak Djokovic heads the field as the world no. 1 and top-seed.
