'Dimitrov will have to take advantage of Big Three retirement' -Mouratoglou
Grigor Dimitrov had a lot of ups and down in his career. The Bulgarian player had his best season ever in 2017 winning Cincinnati and ATP Finals, achieving a career-high ranking at No. 3. But in 2018 he went through a bad season, and he has now left the top 20 rankings.
Dimitrov trained at the Mouratoglou Academy in Nice for some years, and people definitely expected more from him, including probably the Serena Williams's coach Patrick Mouratoglou as well. However, exclusively speaking to Tennis World USA, Mouratoglou said that he never considered Dimitrov's chances to win a Major as something granted. The Bulgarian achieved his best result in Grand Slams at the 2014 Wimbledon and 2017 Australian Open semifinals respectively losing to Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. 'Winning Grand Slams is a big things', Mouratoglou admitted. 'It might seem easy but in tennis, that is the most difficult thing to do. Since 2006, only 7 different men have won a Grand Slam and the immense majority of them have been won by either Novak, Roger or Rafa. Grigor had to play all his career during a time when the domination of three champions have been unique in the tennis history. He hasn’t for the moment been able to make it but there will be opportunities while they will retire and he will have to take advantage of that.'
