Ljubicic brought many things to Roger Federer's game, says Coric's coach
The 60-year-old coach Riccardo Piatti has a lot of experience on the ATP Tour, having worked with Novak Djokovic, Ivan Ljubicic, Richard Gasquet and Milos Raonic in the past and now with Borna Coric since December 2017. In an interview to Dnevnik, Piatti said that one of Coric's goals is a Grand Slam title. "Borna is talented, he can do it, but we will have to work hard to have success", said Piatti. "We are focused on technical progress, movement and dictating rallies."
Coric said: "We are very close on court, which may be the most important thing for me. In the last 15 months we never argued each other which is really unbelievable, but i think he, with his experience and knowledge knows how to fix these things related to tennis."
Piatti also spoke about his relationship with Ljubicic, who is Coric's agent: "I have been knowing him since he came from Bosnia during the war, and I started coaching him when he was 17 years old and I stayed with him for his whole career. We had many dreams and these dreams became real. He is like a younger brother.'
Piatti is not surprised by the success Ljubicic has been having with the 20-time Major winner Roger Federer: 'He knows very well the game and he knows Roger very well, and he is very good mentally and he brought many things of whom Roger needed at the time, and it helped him a lot, and he was also a friend for him.'
Piatti commented on Novak Djokovic's comeback to the top. 'The talent he has is that he is very strong mentally. And he is extremely focused. Obviously, you can see his talent with the ball and he made sacrifices for many days in order to become the best tennis player in the world', said Piatti.
