Simona Halep Says Winning Fed Cup is her Goal for the Season
Tennis - World No. 1 Simona Halep has said that the Fed Cup is the main goal of her season as the Romanians will contest the semi-finals in April.
After losing early in the fourth round of the Australian Open to Serena Williams, Halep has begun to find her form - winning both singles in the Fed Cup quarter-final tie against the Czech Republic and also reached the finals of the WTA Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships. "I still feel the emotions of qualification, it was great, she said earlier this week. It was the best of feelings, with the team. It was a great moment for us. This is the first time we go in the half, it means a lot. When I started the season, I said that my main goal was really to play well in the Fed Cup and to achieve a great result. I say it again. I really hope we can win the next meeting. It's going to be huge for us, for our country. I really want to lift the trophy."
Romania will take on France in the semi-finals on 20 and 21 April. This is the first time in their Fed Cup history that Romania are through to the semi-finals of the event after they knocked out the defending champions Czech Republic 3-2 in the quarter-finals. Halep has now won six Fed Cup matches in a row, including her two this weekend. After the quarter-final wins, Halep had said, "It was my biggest and best win in the Fed Cup and to win both rubbers against the Czech Republic means a lot to me because they have such a big history in this competition."
