'The new Davis Cup format? It's like if Federer or Nadal...' -Prajoux
In a recent interview, the former Chilean player Belus Prajoux strongly criticized the new Davis Cup format. Prajoux said that Gerard Pique should have not been allowed to invest in the team competition. "Pique should be committed to the football and not tennis. It's like if Nadal or Federer said how the world football Cup matches should be played. The Davis Cup will be one more tournament, like Dusseldorf (where ATP World Team Cup was played). You will lose its whole essence. The date is a bad one, players will be very tired. Davis Cup had long matches. Two best of three sets matches and doubles are not the Davis Cup", said Prajoux.
On Christian Garin and Nicolas Jarry possibly helping Chile to have a real shot to win the Davis Cup finals, Prajoux added: "You will have to wait for them to mature, develop. I used to say that when two players would play an ATP in a direct way, we would have real chances. You do not have luck like in football: here you have to play tennis well. Now that's given, we have a full team that is needed to fight anyone."
"Christian had to give himself time and reassess his mind. He always had the game, he was nearing (Alexander) Zverev, (Borna) Coric... He was always about to make a step more."
Nadal will play his next tournament in Acapulco, Federer in Dubai
