WTA Hua Hin: Dayana Yastremska and Ajla Tomljanovic set final clash

The 8th seed Dayana Yastremska is through to the second WTA final after a 6-4, 6-3 win over Magda Linette in an hour and 26 minutes. An 18-year-old Ukrainian played another impressive match, saving four out of five break points and winning 44% of the return points to grab three breaks from six opportunities and stay on the title course, cracking the top-40 for the first time in a career. The youngster hit 29 winners and 24 unforced errors, halting Linteet on just five winners and 16 errors which was never enough for a more effective result.

The Pole had her chances in the opening set, wasting a double break point in games one and seven before Dayana grabbed a crucial break at 5-4 with a backhand return winner that sealed the opener for her. Magda bounced back at the start of the second set but Yastremska pulled the break back in the very next game with another return winner, serving well in the rest of the match to keep the pressure on the other side of the net. Linette suffered a break at 3-4 and Dayana wrapped up a win with a backhand down the line winner in the ninth game to propel herself into the title match.

There, she will play against the 6th seed Ajla Tomljanovic who defeated Tamara Zidansek 6-4, 6-1 in an hour and 13 minutes for her fourth WTA final, seeking the first title. The 25-year-old Aussie had the upper hand all the time, facing just one break point and winning half of the return points to break Zidansek four times from eight opportunities. Settling into a right rhythm from the very first game, Ajla secured an early break and kept it throughout the opener for a 6-4 and she never looked back, breaking Zidansek three times in set number two to march into the final.
