Daniil Medvedev: Roger Federer is the greatest player of all time
Daniil Medvedev looks forward to facing Roger Federer at the Miami Open. They will face each other on Wednesday (after their match got postponed on Tuesday because of rain) for a place in the quarter-finals. Speaking to the Swiss TV Channel SRF, Medvedev said: "I'm playing Roger already for the third time now, we also practiced together a few times, it's a great honor for me to play against him, well, he's currently the greatest player of all time."
Medvedev also commented on the Next Generation stars: "Chris Kermode was saying to us at that first finals, 'Now, all the media [Next Gen publicity] and stuff take it as a joke at this moment. But also remember that you will be the future of tennis.' And it's true. At some point it's like this, life goes on, the big names go away, new ones come."
He also said, "I'm not surprised by how much movement there has been for some guys in the rankings. We knew each other from the juniors, and we were all good. But you cannot say at 14 who will really be good. It will mean nothing. When we were in the Next Gen group we were already near the top-50, but there were still no guarantees."
Federer and Medvedev have played each other twice before with the Swiss player winning both their matches. Both matches were played in 2018, at the Shanghai Rolex Masters and in Basel. Federer needed three sets to defeat the Russian in Shanghai, while in Basel he won in straight sets.
