Facing Roger Federer was a prize for Hubert Hurkacz - Pundit
The tennos expert Wojciech Fibak believes that Hubert Hurkacz took a lot of positives from his straight-set loss to Roger Federer in the Indian Wells quarter-finals earlier this month. The Polish lost 6-4 6-4 playing a good match in what was his biggest tournament in career. "Facing such a legend is a dream for every player", Fibak told Polskie Radio 24. "Every young player wants to face Federer on one of the biggest stadiums in the United States. He achieved his dream and it was like a prize for him."
Fibak went on praising Hurkacz's potential: "Hubert is a young player who I watched two years ago when he won the tournament in Poznan. Even at the time, I predicted him an amazing future. Now Hubert confirms my expectations. He got some very important wins, he beat Kei Nishikori twice, then Lucas Pouille, who reached the Australian Open semifinals, and Denis Shapovalov who is considered as one of the biggest rising stars. Hubert beat all these players in three sets and he does not look tired at all. He has a natural gamestyle in playing tennis. His consistency is impressive, despite he takes some risks on the forehand and backhand side. I can say that Hubert has one of the best backhands in the world. He is also fast. He moves great, a little bit like Gael Monfils and Novak Djokovic."
Fibak then drew an interesting comparison: "Hurkacz is a little bit like Andy Murray. He also walks in a similar way on the court, he has a similar face look. You can see Andy Murray again in him."
