Fernando Verdasco and wife Ana Boyer become parents
World no. 35 Fernando Verdasco and his wife Ana Boyer, sister of sister Enrique Iglesias and daughter of former Spanish minister of economy Miguel Boyer Arnedo, became parents of their first child, a son, as reported by Hola Magazine. The baby is called Miguel, in honor of Ana's father who died in 2014. The baby was born in a hospital in Madrid hospital and both Ana and he are said to be doing fine.
Verdasco skipped Indian Wells and Miami and he is set to compete again in the clay season. Verdasco and Boyer first met each other in the summer of 2013 while they were enjoying holidays in Ibiza. In early 2017, they got engaged. The same year, in December, they got married.
Verdasco and Marin Cilic played an exciting five-set match in the third round of the 2019 Australian Open. Verdasco had two match points against the Croatian but could not convert either and Cilic went on to survive the four-hour-18-minute test to reach the pre-quarter-finals. Verdasco's best result at a Major has also come at the Australian Open. In 2009, he defeated Andy Murray in the fourth round and reached the semi-finals, before losing to Rafael Nadal in another five-set epic. That year, Verdasco broke into the top-10 of the ATP rankings for the first time in his career, reaching a career-high of no. 7 in the world. In 2009, he also won the title in New Haven, and finished as the finalist in two other tournaments, at the Brisbane International, and in Kuala Lumpur, and qualified for the World Tour Finals in London, in November.
