Indian Wells: Novak Djokovic and Fabio Fognini book semi-final spot
Serbia's Novak Djokovic and Italian Fabio Fognini have reached the BNP Paribas Open doubles semi-final.
Djokovic and Fognini edged out doubles specialists Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau in a tight Indian Wells Masters quarter-final clash 7-6 (6) 2-6 10-6.
Djokovic and Fognini got the first break of the match when they broke Rojer and Tecau in the fifth game to take a 3-2 first-set lead.
They had a chance to go up by a double break but failed to convert a break point in the seventh game.
Djokovic and Fognini then failed to serve out for the opener as Rojer and Tecau won the 10th game on a deciding point to make it all tied at 5-5.
However, Djokovic and Fognini kept their focus as they converted their third set point in the tie-break to win a tight opener.
Rojer and Tecau came up big when needed most in the second set as they broke Djokovic and Fognini in the third and seventh game to force a decider.
Djokovic and Fognini paid the price for not converting their second-set chances as they had break points in three games but didn't realize any of their six break point chances.
But Djokovic and Fognini made a strong start to the match tie-break as they won five points in a row to take open a 6-1 lead.
Rojer and Tecau did manage to reduce the deficit to 7-6 but that was all as Djokovic and Fognini won the following three points to seal the win.
Djokovic and Fognini converted just 1-of-9 of their break point chances and saved 4-of-7 of Rojer and Tecau's break point opportunities in an hour and 36 minutes of play.
They will play next against either No. 6 seeds Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo or Dominic Inglot and Franko Skugor.
