Laslo Djere cannot emulate Novak Djokovic, but he can improve his game
Laslo Djere's victory at the Rio Open against the new Canadian talent, Félix Auger-Aliassime, can give voice to a legitimate question: he cannot emulate Novak Djokovic, but can he improve his game?
The best ranking achieved this season (37th position), is a good calling card for a player who, at twenty-three years can still improve a lot, in many points of his game. The victory in Rio de Janeiro is equivalent to his first ATP title, but his season could be very interesting.
Meanwhile, Serbia has found another player to join its biggest champion, especially considering the team that will participate in the final week of the Davis Cup 2019. If Djokovic finally decides to play in the final week of Davis Cup, then Serbia could have one of the more difficult teams to beat during the Spanish week.
Djere started 2019 with the second round at the Tata Open Maharashtra, in Pune, where he lost to Kevin Anderson. Subsequently, he was not able to obtain positive results at the ASB Classic and at the Australian Open, where he was eliminated in the first rounds respectively by Jan-Lennard Struff and Evgeny Donskoy.
Also at the Sofia Open, he went out in the first round, against Mikhail Kukushkin. Then the magic week in Rio de Janeiro, during which he defeated the top-seed Dominic Thiem, Taro Daniel, Casper Ruud, Aljaz Bedene (who gave him a walkover) and, in the final, as mentioned earlier, Auger-Aliassime.
After this win, his career could come to an important turning point: if he would improve physically and technically, then he could get important satisfactions, maybe adding some other titles to his collection.
