Novak Djokovic: Fabio Fognini is one of funniest guys on tour

Serbian tennis superstar Novak Djokovic is enjoying playing doubles with Italy's Fabio Fognini at the BNP Paribas Open.

Djokovic and Fognini are having a great doubles debut team debut as they have reached the Indian Wells Masters quarter-final.

The Serb spoke highly of Fognini after their round-of-16 match as he claimed the Italian is "one of the funniest guys on the tour "

Djokovic and Fognini edged out Indian Rohan Bopanna and rising Canadian star Denis Shapovalov on Sunday 6-4 1-6 10-8.

Djokovic and Fognini were down 4-1 after the opening five games of the first set but then won five games in a row to steal the opener.

However, Bopanna and Shapovalov kept their focus as they broke twice at the beginning of the second set to take an uncatchable 5-0 lead.

Yet, Bopanna and Shapovalov fell short of making a comeback as Djokovic and Fognini converted their second match point in the match tie-break to claim the win.

"Fabio is one of the funniest guys on the tour. We smile a lot on the court. The second set there was not much smiling actually," Djokovic said of playing with Fognini during his on-court interview.

Fognini is a Grand Slam men's doubles champion as he and fellow compatriot Simone Bolelli won it all at the Australian Open in 2015.

When the interview acknowledged that Fabio is a Grand Slam champion and that probably carried them through today, the Italian jokingly said to his Serbian partner: "Remember that, Nole. Understand."

Djokovic and Fognini will play next against either Henri Kontinen and John Peers or Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau.
