Novak Djokovic was empty and tired in Indian Wells - Expert

Former player Claudio Mezzadri made an interesting reflection on Novak Djokovic's third-round loss to Philipp Kohlschreiber in Indian Wells. The Italian admitted that the Serb might have been lacking motivation after winning three Majors in a row. "He is going through a particular season because he can be calm until Wimbledon as last year he did so bad. He is the world no. 1, he is above everyone, he will lead the rankings until Wimbledon and in some ways, that's a new situation," said Mezzadri on Sky Sport.

Analyzing the Miami Open men's singles draw, the former Swiss Davis Cup captain added: "The top half seems more competitive. Look at the Next Generation players, who may upset the top seeds."

There have been 19 tournament winners so far this year on 19 events played. What does it mean? "When there is balance, uncertainty, and unpredictability, it's good but tennis needs heroes and dominant players. A little bit like on the women's side."

On last year's finalist and champion, Mezzadri added: "Zverev was sick and if he got healed he should be a favorite. Isner made a breakthrough last year, he needs to defend 1,000 points but he would come back to a ranking position that he deserves."

Djokovic who has a first-round bye will play either qualifier Thiago Monteiro or Bernard Tomic in the second round. Earlier, Tomas Berdych who was to face Tomic in the first round had withdrawn from the tournament because of not having recovered from his injury.
