Cecchinato: 'People fell in love with my drop shot after win v Djokovic'

In an interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Marco Cecchinato commented on the clay season that he just started this week. "The first goal is to get a good result on clay. A lot of important tournaments come - Monte Carlo, Madrid, Rome, French Open - and do not forget Budapest where I won my first career-title. I trained well, I am confident because I reached the Doha Open semifinals on hard, I won in Buenos Aires without dropping off a set, then I played so and so in Indian Wells and Miami. I think I can get other good results and raise the rankings", said Cecchinato who beat Novak Djokovic in the last year's French Open quarters. On how it felt to start the season on a good note, the Italian added: "They are very useful points, I headed into the clay season holding more than 400 points. I started winning matches played bad while last year I was always losing. Now I fight and I manage to go through. Against Schwartzman, all the crowd was cheering for him, but now they will support me in Monte Carlo, Rome, French Open where they fall in love with my drop shot. French Open is the major tournament but there are many other events prior to that and then I will have to defend many points. However, in the second half of the season, I can achieve good results and win many other matches on hard and clay too."

On how it will be to come back to the French Open, he concluded: "It will definitely be a particular environment. Describing all the emotions is difficult, that Pietrangeli Stadium is unique. Hopefully, I am ready."
