Daniil Medvedev feeling confident ahead of Novak Djokovic clash
Daniil Medvedev defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in three sets to reach the Monte Carlo Masters quarter-final and book a clash against Novak Djokovic. In press conference, on the 20-year-old Greek, the Russian said: "He had bigger wins than me. He's higher in the rankings. So he's also not bad (smiling). And he's younger than me. But it's true, yeah, that all of our four matches were really tight. I managed to go on top of all of them. Why? Well, me, every match I play, I try to win every point, in fact. Not that I even fight for every point, but before every point, I think, okay, what should I do to win this point? And it works well against him (smiling)."
"It's a great achievement", Medvedev continued. "I had only two wins on clay on the ATP Tour before this tournament. Now I have three [this week]... everything is perfect. In the third set I just went out there and thought, 'Okay I need to put every ball I can in the court'. Even being a break down, I finally managed to do it."
Kei Nishikori committed to the Hawaii Open Tennis Tournament that takes place from 27 to 29 December 2019 in Honolulu. The Japanese player defeated Milos Raonic 7-6 7-6 in the last year's final. The event takes place prior to the ATP Cup that will kick off the new season in Australia over three cities from 3 to 12 January 2020. “Hawaii holds a special place in my heart and I’m thrilled to be going back this year. The fans are amazing, and I had a great time exploring the beautiful island. I look forward to defending my title", said Nishikori.
